Baby Doris sidetracks Masing’s campaign trail

LUBOK ANTU: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Tan Sri Dr James Masing and his delegation broke off their campaign trail to go to the aid of a new born child and her mother at Ng Ukom, Enkari here on Tuesday. The baby was born just hours before Masing arrived at this remote longhouse but her mother Jita Jarau could not breast-feed her as she could not produce milk.

This put the baby in danger as a new born child has to be fed as soon as possible after birth.Upon hearing the plight of the family, Masing immediately went to see them to find out what he could do to help.

Upon realising the seriousness of the situation, he dispatched his special officer, Robert Liman, to buy some baby formula in Lubok Antu about 15 minutes’ by helicopter but almost two hours by boat.Despite the sudden heavy downpour, the pilot managed to fly Robert to Lubok Antu and back to the longhouse within an hour. When Masing relayed the story to the longhouse folk who were present at the gathering, they were most thankful.

As the baby girl had not been named by her parents, Masing suggested that she be named
William Nyalau, Calon BN-PRS Lubok Antu
Doris after Datuk Doris Brodie the PRS Wanita chief and Senate deputy speaker who happened to be in Masing’s delegation together with Lubok Antu incumbent William Nyallau.
As a matter of fact, he said PRS had done a lot for the rural people but most of the good deeds were not highlighted to the public as the party preferred to do them quietly.

Earlier, he told the people of Ng Ukom not to be hoodwinked by the opposition who were all out to take advantage of their naivety.Masing said that PKR and SWP had nothing to offer to them as they were merely fishing for their votes. He said he knew very well the family background of SWP candidate for Lubok Antu – Larry Sng.He said the Sng family had a hidden agenda by standing in the area. Nyallau and Brodie also spoke at the function.
